Shutters are designed and manufactured to meet every clients unique requirements. Although some shutters have been motorized in the past the cost involved in doing this surpasses the actual cost of the shutters.3. How long do aluminium shutters last in Cape Town’s coastal conditions?
Our aluminium shutters come standard with 10- or 5-year guarantees but there are shutters out there that have been functioning perfectly for almost 2 decades. It all comes down to regularly clearing and maintaining your shutters following our Care and Maintenance guidelines.4. What’s the difference between aluminium shutters and timber shutters?

Yes, provided that they are installed internally and have adequate ventilation.
2. Can timber shutters replace curtains and blinds entirely?
Yes, you don’t need to have blinds or curtains fitted when you have timber shutters. However if you already have curtains and would like to have tie-back design alongside your timber shutters you can definitely do that as well.
3. Do timber shutters add value to a property?
Yes they do. Shutters are seen as a fixing that wont be removed when you sell your property. Thus it adds value to your property. Care and maintenance of your shutters remain the key factory here.

2. How do Ziptrak® blinds handle Cape Town’s southeaster wind?
Ziptrak blinds are specially designed for high wind speeds. When installed correctly our Ziptrak® blinds can withstand up to 140km/hr wind speeds.
3. What is the maximum size for a Ziptrak® outdoor weather blind installation?
Maximum width is 6m with a height of 3.5m. For openings wider than 6m we offer a removable post which is an aluminium post that can be removed and replaced in seconds.
4. Can Ziptrak® blinds be retrofitted to an existing patio or entertainment area?
All our blinds are purposefully designed and manufactured to suit each client’s needs and requirements. So yes, Ziptrak® blinds can be designs to fit an existing patio or entertainment area.

- Do insect screen shutters still provide security as well as keeping insects out?
No, they are only design to keep pesky insects out.2. What mesh size is used? will it keep small insects as well as mosquitoes out?
We offer standard and Tuff mesh which is designed to keep our insects, creepy crawlies and even snakes.3. Can insect screens be added to existing aluminium shutters?
Yes, provided you have enough available reveal space behind your shutters.

- How much wind can a folding arm awning handle?
This is all based on the actual size of the blind. It’s best is to contact Cape Shutters & Shades for more information on your requirements.2. What size awning do I need for my patio?
It all depends on your need and requirements. Some clients op to enclose their entire patio where other only want to enclose a third. Its entirely up to the client and product limitations.3. Is motorisation worth it for a folding arm awning?
If the client has a specific need for motorisation then yes. We’ve done a number of installations for physically impaired clients where motorisation is a must.
LTAS (Light Transmitting Architectural Systems) FAQs
- What is a light transmitting architectural system and where is it used?
In short, LTAS are light weight panels that replace glass to let natural light through without the harsh glare. Panels have a high R rating which means that heat, and cold weather is kept at bay. Clients use these in office buildings, façades, patio coverings and general roofing solutions. Panels are much lighter than traditional glass systems and are installed much faster.2. Can LTAS be specified for commercial and residential developments?
Yes, there are options, designs and colours available to suit every need.3. Are technical specification sheets available for architects and developers?
